Vienna Fashion Week 2016 – thur 15 – Barbara Alli
We are delighted to announce that designer, Barbara Alli, of Hand Made Story, will showcase her unique, luxury line of fashion and accessories at Vienna Fashion Week. We would like to invite you to this presentation which will showcase the diversity and influence of African culture in European fashion.
Barbara was born in Ghana and raised in Nigeria. Her collection is inspired by the culture of her origin, combining traditional African print fabrics with urban European design. It started as a hobby, but her business has grown over the past three years, impelling Hand Made Story to become an online brand, selling to customers around the globe.
Hand Made Story offers unique, one-of-a-kind pieces for the fashion conscious crowd, with designs highlighting the rich color, vitality and versatility of Africa. Influenced as a child by African culture, where brilliant colors and pattens played an unconscious role, Barbara quickly realized what was missing from the world of European fashion when she moved to Austria. The African influence in today’s fashion industry has been growing for the past few years and is present in cities such as London, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam and New York, emphasizing the timely importance of Hand Made Story’s collection on this year’s Fashion Week runway in Vienna. It will be a tremendous opportunity to promote a positive image of Africa, it’s culture, and ingenuity like Barbara’s that bring the vibrancy of the culture to light on the European stage.
Barbara hopes that in following her dream, she will inspire others with migration backgrounds to explore and develop their own talents and abilities to confidently reach their full potential, expanding opportunities for multicultural arts on the International stage. With her label, Hand Made Story, Barbara is able to satisfy her powerful social conscience and give back to her homeland, supporting the merchants there by buying fabrics from local markets, then producing some of her designs on site.
